Leonor is one of the founding partners of magellan IP and the head of the patent practice of the firm. Leonor has over sixteen years of experience in the field of intellectual property. Prior to founding magellan IP, Leonor was an associate and a partner at renowned Brazilian intellectual property firms.

She represents important national and international clients, ranging from academic institutions to multinational corporations, acting in the drafting and prosecuting of patents before the BPTO, patentability analysis, technology transfer, freedom to operate analysis, legal opinions, oppositions, appeal proceedings and general consultancy services in intellectual property. She specializes in chemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, immunology, medical devices, diagnostics as well as pharmaceutical products. Leonor is also actively involved in biodiversity matters and access to the Brazilian genetic patrimony, including acting on behalf of clients before the Genetic Patrimony Management Council (CGEN).

Leonor regularly presents to audiences worldwide on a variety of topics regarding Brazilian patent law and practice. She has gained much respect in the profession as chair and co-chair the Biotechnology Committee of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association for over 12 years. Leonor is also an active volunteer mentor for intellectual property matters at Endeavor, an NGO that promotes entrepreneurship around the world

  • Doctorate degree (PhD) in Biochemistry from the Department of Biochemistry of the University of São Paulo.
